CURA expands Scientific Committee and reinforces commitment to more representative clinical research in Brazil

Since 2016, the CURA Project Institute has in its DNA a commitment to qualified information, the promotion of clinical research and the expansion of access to innovative studies and treatments in oncology. Acting as a cutting-edge institution, CURA connects science, health professionals, and patients, always focusing on strengthening the clinical research ecosystem in Brazil.

As part of this continuous mission, starting in 2026, CURA takes another strategic step: the expansion of the representation of its Scientific Committee. The initiative reinforces the institutional commitment to collaborative clinical research, accessible and aligned with Brazilian diversity, an essential element for more qualified decisions and for the sustainable advancement of oncology.

The role of the CURA Scientific Committee

The CURA Project Institute aims to support and expand access to clinical research and innovative treatments, by supporting research projects, initiatives that promote access to innovation, and social awareness actions about the strategic role of development in health.

The analysis and prioritization of efforts are based on qualified technical evaluations by the Research Committee, always considering the reality of the patients, the challenges of the health system, and scientific evolution.

Throughout their career, several professionals have already been part of this committee, contributing knowledge, experience, and strategic vision to strengthen Cura's technical position.

The current expansion marks a new moment, in which regional plurality plays an even greater role, reflecting the complexity of the cancer patient journey in Brazil.

A strategic vision for clinical research challenges

For the COO of the CURA Project Institute, Dr. Roberto Jun Arai, the expansion of the Scientific Committee is a necessary move in view of the growth and complexity of clinical research in the country.

“We began expanding the Scientific Committee to add to our 'voice of support' an increasingly technical position, guided by national representation. It is a continuous and necessary evolution in a heterogeneous country, where the patient's journey is essentially diverse, especially from an economic and geographical point of view. With this plurality, we will have more strength to address actions that overcome barriers to access clinical studies and new treatments. As research is likely to expand in volume and complexity in the coming years, this action, among others, prepares and strengthens us institutionally. We will have more clarity in the face of complex demands. Decisions debated in greater depth make CURA more resilient and mature. We work to improve CURA every day to be a collaborator of strategic value for research and for patients.”

Meet the members of the CURA Scientific Committee

The Scientific Committee of the CURA Project Institute is now composed of recognized specialists in oncology, working in different regions of Brazil:

  • Dr. Heloisa Resende — Oncologist (RJ) | President
  • Dr. Aknar Calabrich — Oncologist (BA)
  • Dr. Eduardo Zucca — Oncologist (SP)
  • Dr. Jesse Lopes — Oncologist (RJ)
  • Dr. Lilian Arruda — Oncologist (SP)
  • Dr. Max Mano — Oncologist (SP)
  • Dr. Poliana de Andrade — Oncologist (RO)

  • Dr. Fabio Yone de Moraes — Radiologist Oncologist (Canada)

Throughout its history, the Scientific Committee of the CURA Project Institute counted on the contribution of professionals who helped to consolidate its technical and strategic role in clinical oncology research. In recent years, Dr. Heloísa Resende, Dr. Max Mano and Dr. Lilian Arruda, who were previously members of the Committee and still make up the Committee, in addition to Dr. José Márcio Figueiredo, Dr. Abna F. S. Vieira, Dr. Andreia Melo and Dr. Anelisa Coutinho.

For the President of the Scientific Committee of the Cura Project Institute, Dr. Heloisa Resende:” The expansion of the CURA Scientific Committee reinforces our commitment to integrate different specialties and regions of the country, strengthening technical analysis and the production of independent knowledge. This scientific diversity is essential to guide policies and actions that bring patients, researchers, and society closer to the benefits of clinical research”

Science, Representativeness, and Social Impact

The strengthening of the Scientific Committee reaffirms the CURA Project Institute as an active agent in building more inclusive clinical research, connected to the Brazilian reality and committed to the future of oncology. By expanding voices, regions, and perspectives, CURA continues to advance its mission to inform, connect, and transform access to clinical research in Brazil.
