10 Years of the Cura Project Institute: Transforming the Reality of Clinical Oncology Research in Brazil
Celebrating a decade is measuring the real impact on the lives of thousands of people and, since its founding, the Cura Project Institute has been a catalyst for information and science, joining forces to make clinical research the key to more effective and affordable treatments against cancer.
Over these 10 years, we have consolidated an action model that connects the public, private and academic sectors, enabling a sustainable and patient-focused research ecosystem.
Impact of Cura in numbers
The results achieved by the Cura Project Institute reflect the continuous commitment to the production of cutting-edge scientific knowledge in Brazil:
- R$ 5.5 Million: raised for direct funding of oncological research.
- +2,000 Patients: participants in research protocols.
- 14 Funded Research: investigator-initiated research (see the full list in the attached table).
- Publications: 4 published articles and one in progress, raising the name of Brazilian science on the global stage.
The strategic role of CURA
The Institute works on multidisciplinary fronts to ensure that innovation reaches those who need it most:
- Access to information: we bring patients closer to real research opportunities, demystifying the process and offering quality content.
- Encouragement to new researchers: we invest in the new generation of doctors and health professionals to expand the production of national knowledge. The Renata Thormann Procianoy Award is an example of this incentive. Check it out at: https://www.projetocura.org/sobre-o-cura/premio-renata-thormann-procianoy
- Data Facilitation: we work in the production and dissemination of data to guide new public policies.
- Public-Private Partnerships: we brokered sponsors' support for federal programs, such as the PRONON, boosting the reach of public policies.
- Campaigns: Fundraising and asset mobilization
Strengthening Infrastructure: Ultrafreezer donation to LACOG
A recent milestone in this trajectory is the donation of a Ultrafreezer — 80ºC to the Biorepository of LACOG (Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group).
This initiative is fundamental to enable the expansion of translational research, allowing the safe storage of biological samples that are the heart of genetic and personalized cancer studies. With this infrastructure, LACOG is gaining momentum to promote new discoveries in Latin America.

Transparency and the future
The Cura Project Institute believes that trust is the basis of any scientific advance. That's why we maintain a strict commitment to transparency.
All the details about our financial execution, annual activity reports and transparency data can be found on our official page: Transparency and Reporting - CURA Project Institute
We thank every donor, researcher, doctor, and especially every patient who trusts in our mission.
