Cura Project Institute launches the CURA Platform — A milestone in access to Clinical Research in Brazil
The CURA Project Institute, in partnership with LACOG, launched the CURA Platform, a digital tool that expands access to innovative treatments and connects patients and health professionals to ongoing clinical research for different types of cancer. The launch took place during the 12th All Together Against Cancer Congress, in São Paulo.
The initiative, led by the CURA Project Institute, a non-profit organization that supports clinical research in the fight against cancer, and carried out by LACOG — the first multinational cooperative group in Latin America dedicated to clinical and epidemiological research in oncology, is now available for free access at Www.platformacura.org
“The platform is a service that CURA makes available to the Brazilian population. Our goal is to expand patients' access to clinical research,” says Fernanda Schwyter, President of the CURA Project Institute.
With simple and intuitive navigation, the platform offers a database built based on technical and scientific information in the public domain, reorganized and translated by LACOG. In this way, it connects doctors and patients to open clinical research in Brazil in a practical way.
“This partnership is a milestone in the democratization of information and also an important strategy for integrating research and care in the area of oncology,” says Taiane Rebelatto, LACOG's Medical Director.
Brazil leads the way in conducting clinical studies in Latin America (42%), but it still represents a modest percentage on the world stage (2%). Despite this, the country has great potential to attract clinical trials due to the diversity of the population, the public health system, the incidence of common diseases also in developed countries, the qualification of professionals and the good infrastructure for phase III clinical trials.
However, knowledge about clinical research is still limited: many people are unaware of the importance and the possibility of participating in these studies, while research centers face difficulties in identifying eligible patients.
“The CURA Platform was created to fill a historic gap: the difficulty for patients and doctors to locate, in a simple and fast way, clinical studies opened in Brazil,” said Gustavo Werutsky, Executive Director of LACOG.
With the CURA Platform, the CURA Project Institute and LACOG reinforce their commitment to bringing clinical research closer to the reality of the Brazilian population, promoting greater access to information and new treatment opportunities. The initiative represents an important step to democratize science, strengthen oncology in the country, and transform the lives of patients and families facing cancer.
