Cura Talks Mama reinforces the role of clinical research in patient-centered care
The Cura Project Institute held, on March 20, 2026, in São Paulo, the Cura Talks Mama — Symposium on Advocacy in Clinical Research and Patient-Centered Innovation, consolidating the event as an important space for dialogue between science, society and real experience in the context of breast cancer.
Over the course of 9 hours of programming, the meeting brought together 100 face-to-face participants out of 180 registered in advance, in addition to the participation of 25 speakers and debaters, distributed in 4 thematic panels, promoting an intense journey of learning, exchange and collective construction.
Aimed at patients, representatives of organizations, health professionals, journalists and influencers, the event fulfilled its purpose of broaden understanding of the fundamental role of clinical research in the evolution of science, in access to new therapies, and in strengthening the active participation of patients in their own care.

A space for dialogue between science and real life
Throughout the day, Cura Talks Mama promoted a collaborative environment, bringing together different perspectives in a space for active listening and exchange of experiences. One of the highlights was the interactive banner, installed at the event venue, where participants were able to contribute ideas, questions, and suggestions about future clinical research.
The initiative reinforced the commitment of the Cura Project Institute to listen to the real needs of the community, connecting science to the concrete demands of those who live or work on the breast cancer journey.
Scientific programming and impact topics
The program addressed relevant and current topics, with emphasis on:
- Advances presented at SABCS 2025 and their impacts on clinical practice
- Precision medicine, radiation therapy and breast cancer surgery
- Communication in clinical research and the patient journey
- Inclusion and diversity in research
- Comprehensive care and quality of life
- The role of information and awareness campaigns
Papo CURA moments promoted open and accessible discussions, translating scientific evidence into practical decisions and strengthening the connection between specialists and participants.


Recognition of Brazilian research
During the event, the delivery of 7th Renata Thormann Procianoy Prize, which recognizes excellence in clinical research in Brazil.
The honoree was Dr. Ruffo Freitas Júnior, for the ITABERAÍ study, presented at the ASCO Annual Meeting 2025. The research, conducted in Goiás with more than 3,600 women, was highlighted by an innovative breast cancer screening model in the SUS, with the use of Brazilian technology and the active participation of community health agents, contributing to the early detection and expediting of treatment.
The check in support of the Despatil Study, represented by Dr. Renata Bonadio, was also delivered, reinforcing the commitment of the Cura Project Institute to the funding and development of clinical research in the country.

Another important moment was the launch of CURA Vozes Campaign, an initiative that connects scientific evidence to real patient stories, expanding the visibility of experiences and strengthening communication about clinical research.

Partnerships that make the meeting possible
Cura Talks Mama had institutional support from the Latin American Cooperative Oncology Group (LACOG) and the Brazilian Breast Cancer Studies Group (GBECAM), in addition to master sponsorship from Novartis, sponsorship from Daiichi Sankyo and support from AstraZeneca.
